Room 10 - expert campers and trampers

Room 10 returned from camp on Friday, having experienced some absolutely stunning weather in the Wairarapa.  It is fantastic hearing everyone recount their stories from their shared experiences.  Friendships were strengthened, amazing memories created and personal lessons learnt through different challenges set along the way.
All in all, a very successful and memorable camp experience.  Sure to be a 2014 highlight for everyone involved.
Room 10 would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the four parents who helped out over the week, Jenny, Tracey, Paula and Joe.  Without your help the camp could not have gone ahead, let alone run so smoothly.  Thank you so much!
We would also like to thank Mr Taylor for planning such amazing experiences at Waikuku lodge.
And we would like to extend a very special thank you to Miss Fa'a who filled in for Mrs Larsen at Waikuku.  We loved having you as our teacher for the week to share these very special memories with. You are now an honorary Rm 10 member for the rest of 2014!!

Camp Gear Check - this Thursday 6th March

Before Room 10 goes away on camp next week, I would like to check that we are ready for all weather conditions, given the changeable weather we are experiencing.

Could all students please bring in the following items to be checked off this Thursday 6th March:

- Waterproof coat
- Thermals
- Woollen hat, socks, jersey x2 or fleece
- Shoes you intend to wear on the tramps
- Sun hat

I will post the gear list on the camp page in case yours has gone missing.

Just a couple of notes about camp:

Please make sure you have a day pack that has two straps so you can wear it on your back, and that it can fit the following items:
- Lunch box
- Drink bottle
- Sun hat
- Waterproof jacket (not water resistant)
- One thermal top layer (polypro or marino)
- Woolen or fleece jersey

For your main bag - it needs to be a sports bag or back pack with two handles that you can carry without assistance.  You will only be carrying this from the bus up the hill to camp sites etc.  Please keep this bag size to a minimum as you will be sharing a tent with 2 other classmates, so you will have limited room for your bags in your tents.

Pre-camp Team Building Fun

As our class is going on camp in just over a week, it is important that we continue to grow and bond as a group. So we spent some time today taking part in drama activities. Check out the photos below to see Room 10's creative takes on everyday items!

It was also a perfect opportunity for us to get to know Miss Fa'a better as she will be coming on camp with us.

Making items found in the kitchen with our bodies. Can you spot the oven cooking gingerbread men? The blender, kitchen bench, chopsticks, and kitchen sink with taps???
Here we are making items found in the garage. Can you figure out which group is the shelf and the seat? Two groups gave us their interpretations of a car.

In the photos below we have a garage door, some shelves and a blender.

ATHLETICS DAY 2014 - Go URU!!!!

Yesterday was our school athletics day and what an amazing day it was! The weather really turned up the heat which was matched by the enthusiasm from all the students and teachers alike!

As our first House competition day, it was wonderful to see everyone really embrace their House colours and chants, using these to spur on their fellow competitors.

Have a look through the Padlet below to see the reflections on the day and how Room 10 student's displayed the school's values of ASPIRE during the day's events.

Design Production Education (D.P.E) - Survival Island

What an exciting and engaging way to start the week!  Today (Monday) Team 1 was split into their home rooms for their DPE 'Excite stations' based around the context of 'Survival Island'.   Here they rotated around the different rooms to learn about different problems or situations, and experiment with a range of materials or ideas. The aim was to spark their interest in a scenario to further investigate.

It was fantastic to see the students so engaged in the different stations with some good thinking / questioning starting to take place too!

Athletics

Athletics Day is on Wednesday of Week 3, February 19th at Nairnville Park.  Today, Room 10 started their training.  For the next three weeks, we will be training with our team (Team 1) to develop our abilities in the different events.
Today, some of Room 10 worked on their shotput technique.  The rest of the class were in different groups, working on running, the discus throw and their long jump technique.

WELCOME

Welcome to Room 10's Learning Log (blog).

I hope everyone has had a restful and fun holiday and I am looking forward to us sharing our experiences with each other as we get to know one another.

This blog has been set up in order to share and celebrate what we are doing in class. It will provide a snapshot of a few activities we are undertaking during the year and track our class progress.

Well, we have an exciting year ahead of us, including our camp, the school production, many sporting events (starting with Athletics Day) as well as Enrichments to look forward to!

Year 8's - Welcome back to your senior year at Raroa.  You will be very familiar with how the school works now and I hope that you are ready to help the Year 7's settle into this year with a positive start, by helping them to find their way around and answer their questions.

Year 7's - Welcome to your first year at Raroa. I am sure you will make many new friends here and have some amazing experiences with all the opportunities on offer here. Both the Year 8's and I will be here to answer your questions and to help you settle into what will be a busy first term.

I am looking forward to us getting to know each other, and to what will be an exciting first term.
